Introduction compulsory: since it is a super title chatted and apparently all go crazy when he speaks, I wanted to read it to understand where it came from all the furore that has arouse.
You know, curiosity comes to power, after you see and hear people around you asking for the immediate sanctification of E.L. James (the lucky writer) and begin a spiritual journey in search of the legendary Mister Grey, mythological figure co-protagonist of the novel, which came in the dreams of all...
But no more talk and start immediately!
The book is part of a series consists of three titles: "Fifty Shades of Grey", "Fifty Shades darker" and "Fifty shades freed".
If you've never heard of it (highly unlikely), here's the plot: the novel is written in first person by Ana, the young protagonist about to graduate, who is persuaded by her friend to replace her to go for an interview that will change her life. Ana finds herself interviewing Christian Grey, a young and 'beautiful to pass out' super rich man, the owner of an empire that bears his name. After a series of events they will begin to attend, and Mr. Grey makes it clear that it is a ruler, not in normal life... in the depths of the couple. From this point on it is a flurry of "emotions" in which the writer describes word for word for what happens between the two in the "red room".
Being the first of three titles, the book ends leaving the reader like a fool (of course), so as to encourage the reading of the second book.
Here you are my thoughts:
This book is categorized as erotic, and the writing is smooth and pleasant. The story is pretty but quite boring and full of paradoxes: he super cool, super-rich and young (paradox number one) which has around him the most beautiful women in the universe and who is hit to? From her youngster unpretentious, more insecure than ever (paradox number two). Her friend gets her in a moment of lack of clarity due to alcohol (this can stand) and finds himself in front of Mr. Grey, who until recently was on the other side of the universe, coming up with such a timing which suggests to Mr. Grey almost like a stalker lurking in the vicinity of Ana (paradox par excellence!). I could go on for quite a while, but then ruin the surprise for those who would like to open for the first time this book.
In the end this first title, removed the countless pages that the book has become famous (no, I don't mean when she interviewed him!), is a cute little story, but nothing more than a pink novel.
Now, my suspicion is that it has become so popular because women are finally felt free to buy what in effect is a book that speaks of "what you should not speak" without feeling "women of malpractice". The downside is that I don't think that all are able to fully understand that this is a novel, and not distinguishing real facts from gimmick you create more than false expectations on the ideal of man, thus risking to derail any thing for a not clear reading. In substance the book is nice, a bit too dirty for my taste, and must be read with a certain awareness, and in any case beyond a certain age, say 25!!
While this review might suggest the Instead, I firmly believe that this book should be read, even if you do not like the genre (as in my case) simply because apparently it's the book of the year, and for you own culture you should know for culture sensation what it talks about.
I want to reiterate that this post is fruit of my personal thoughts on the book, and I hope you enjoyed my review.
