Adopt a bunny, basics - By Sissylove85

Hi everybody!
Today I'm gonna talk to you about one of my passions: bunnies!

In my first post (welcome to my world!) I had mentioned to my love for them, and especially for Romeo.
This post needs to give you basics, to know even before you adopt a bunny, so let's start!

- Adopt a bunny is an act of love, but we must also be able to keep him for a happy life, then put in mind its initial expenses, the monthly and annual expenditure: the initial expenses are the purchase of the cage, a rack for grass (it is usually included in the cage), a drinkable water, food and litter, the fixed monthly expenses are food and litter and annual expenses are the first visit to the vet and the subsequent vaccines.

- When you go to take your bunny, the choice should fall on a healthy bunny: check if it is lively, he mustn't have his eyes with the scabs, and especially the private parts should be cleaned and flushed. When they are small, it is difficult to understand their sex, and in any case should not be dismissed from the mother of the first two months of life. In general it is easier to understand sex after three months. Of course, the sex effect on the character, usually females are more calm and cuddly, boys are lively and cuddly. That said, let conquer!

- Find a good vet, you will need a specialist in exotic animals. The vet, in addition to making the first visit to your bunny, will give you key information on nutrition and how to treat them, not to mention the chance to ask more specific advice!

- Never think that a bunny is a soft toy! Each bunny has its own character, its fears and the things that prefers others. It's up to you to find out from step by step.

- Find a nice place for the cage, away from radiators, possibly where he or she can be released to run a bit around: if they are too closed in a cage, especially if due to space the cage is small, they get stressed a lot.

- You should know that the main causes of death in bunnies are heart attack and intestinal blockage, so it is important to avoid loud noises around them, and it is essential to know the basics of nutrition for them not to give him the wrong foods.

- Bunnies are very clean animals, even than cats, they are always fragrant and fluffy, but the cage should be cleaned every 3 or 4 days (in spring and summer should be cleaned more often), especially for their hygiene.

- Bunnies can suffer greatly if you do not pampered, so if you are going to adopt them and then leave them to fend for themselves, forget it.

- It's good to know that bunnies are sweet, very smart, affectionate, and very scary, consider all these aspects when you relate with them.

- The presence of other animals in the house should be kept an eye on, for example if you have a dog at home, you have to tell your vet that will give you a specific flea, for both the dog and the bunny, which is not toxic to the bunny; if you have a cat it is important to know that the cat litter box is TOXIC to the bunnies. In order not to miss it, every animal used for its specific litter box, his food and his hygiene product.

- Last, but not least, love them as they love you! Pets are filled with unconditional love toward us, why shouldn'd we love them in return?

These were the basics, next post I'll tell you more about nutrition, hygiene care of their and relationship that is created. I hope you enjoyed this post and especially that you found it useful!

Bye bye to all and see you soon!
